A Railroad Township Trustee candidate is now out of the race, but another name has been added. John Harris is officially off the ballot following a pair of challenges against his campaign, according to Starke County Clerk Vicki Cooley. She says the Starke County Election Board reviewed the challenges Friday and determined that Harris was not an eligible candidate for the May primary.

Pulaski County Road 700 North Bridge Replacement to Start Next Month
Final preparations are underway for the replacement of the bridge on Pulaski County Road 700 North over Bogus Run. Jeff Larrison with United Consulting gave an update to the county commissioners Monday. “We’ve conducted the pre-construction meeting with JCI, the contractor that was selected, and we basically have the plan in place now for how to address the project timing-wise,” he explained. “Construction is expected to start March 1, weather-permitting.”
Chesapeake and Indiana Railroad Plans Track Upgrades
The operator of North Judson’s short line railroad plans to rehabilitate 15 miles of track, thanks to a $300,000 Industrial Rail Service Fund grant. The Chesapeake and Indiana Railroad says it will install more than 4,400 new ties on a stretch of track through LaPorte County. Railroad representatives say that will bring the segment up to Class 1 track standards, which allow freight trains to travel at up to 10 miles per hour.

The Town of Francesville may be looking into adding a park board. Clerk-Treasurer Linda Bennett says the idea was brought to the town council Monday by a representative from the UpTown Project. “They asked about maybe getting a park board, so that, maybe, we could get some grants,” Bennett explains. “And that will be looked into. We’re going to contact some other towns to see what theirs is.”
