Beware of Vehicle v. Animal Collisions

Deer season isn’t just for hunters. AAA Insurance warns motorists are most likely to hit a deer between the months of October and December. The Insurance Information Institute advises animals, mainly deer, are involved in more than a million collisions with vehicles each year, resulting in about 200 fatalities.

Motorists can do their part to avoid becoming statistics by sweeping eyes back and forth across the road and watching for signs of animals and their movement. Look to the right and left as well in case an animal is by the side of the road. Motorists are most likely to hit a deer, but occasionally they will run into the side of your car. Continue reading

Starke County Commissioners to Consider Personnel Requests Tonight

starke-county-courthouseSeveral items on the agenda for tonight’s Starke County Commissioners meeting pertain to plans for 2016. Tonight’s EMS report includes a request for a pay raise for the director next year. Starke County Highway Superintendent Rik Ritzler will also ask the commissioners to create new employment positions in the 2016 budget. In other personnel matters, the commissioners will also make an employment offer to a candidate for the emergency management agency director position vacated recently by Ted Bombagetti. He resigned from the county to take a position with the state. Continue reading

Voter Registration Deadline is Today

 
 

If you aren’t registered to vote or have moved since the last election, you’ve got until the close of business today to take care of business. This is the deadline for voters who plan to cast ballots in the November General Election to either register or update their registration information. Continue reading
