Carl Emerson Lucas

Carl Emerson Lucas, age 96, of North Judson, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Oak Grove Christian Village in DeMotte. Carl was born May 1, 1923, in Aldine, Indiana to Charles E. Lucas and Hariett Deardorff Lucas, both deceased. He was a WWII Veteran having served as a Naval Air Cadet in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the North Judson American Legion.

He had worked his entire life in agricultural banking, starting out at Production Credit in Valparaiso, went on to be a Director at the Valparaiso Federal Land Bank, retiring as Agricultural Loan Officer at Farm Credit Services. He worked at numerous local banks after retiring as an Agricultural Service Officer.

He was also very active in his community having served many boards and committees including; Starke County ASCS, Farmer’s Home Administration, Starke County Council, Starke County 4-H Fair Board, Indiana State Fair (Clerk & Office manager of Cattle Barn, Clerk of Wester Horse Show, 1st Assistant to State Fair President & 1st Assistant in Commercial Building), Indiana High School Basketball Official (20 years), Farm Bureau (40 years), Knox Moose Lodge, Bass Lake Volunteer Fire Dept. (20 years), Kouts Lions Club (Past President), North Judson Kiwanis Club (Past President), Bass Lake Property Owners Assoc. (Past President), PTA California Township School (Past President), Indiana Association of Rural Appraisers, Indiana Society of Agricultural Bankers, LaPorte County Row Crop Growers, Indiana Young Farmers and American Institute of Co-operatives Federal Land Bank Representative.

He is survived by his three children, Patty Redlin of Knox, Guy E. Lucas (Barbara) of Rensselaer, and Brenda Franey (Terry) of Portland, Maine, a sister, Carmen Benes of Bolingbrook, Illinois, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, August 17, 2019, from 2-5pm (CT) at the Bass Lake-California Township Firehouse.
