John Gordon Richard, 84, of Knox, previously of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 surrounded by his wife Janet, son Jacob, and daughter Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law, and 3 brothers. Born on March 14, 1934 to Arthur and Rose Richard, John was a former US Navy boatswain’s mate on the USS Bennington during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in June of 1954 after his ship was blown up.
An active member of the Knox United Methodist Church, Knox VFW, and American Legion, John will be missed by many. He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, Jaxon, Emma, Callie, and Kason. He also enjoyed his Friday night supper club, fishing, learning about history, and telling stories and jokes.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, September 15, 2018 starting at 10:00 AM at the Knox United Methodist Church. 201 South Shield Street Knox, IN 46534. A memorial service will begin at noon with lunch to follow at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Knox United Methodist Church or Northeast Indiana Honor Flight in his name.
