William J. “Bill” Runkle

William J. “Bill” Runkle, age 85, of Knox, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018. Bill was born July 28, 1933 in Miami County, Indiana to Clifford and Dorothy Dulski Runkle, both deceased. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army and a member of Knox American Legion Post 131. On September 13, 1952 he married Joyce A. Bickel, she survives. Also surviving are his children, Rose Arndt of Gordon, Wisconsin and Clifford C. “Cliff” Runkle of Knox, a brother, Roy Runkle of Knox and a sister, Joan Bigora of Hamlet, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford “Jim” Runkle and a sister, Carol Stachulak. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 4-7pm, with funeral services at 7pm (CT) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Runkle Family Scholarship or the American Legion Post 131.

John Gordon Richard

John Gordon Richard, 84, of Knox, previously of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018 surrounded by his wife Janet, son Jacob, and daughter Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother in-law, and 3 brothers. Born on March 14, 1934 to Arthur and Rose Richard, John was a former US Navy boatswain’s mate on the USS Bennington during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in June of 1954 after his ship was blown up.

An active member of the Knox United Methodist Church, Knox VFW, and American Legion, John will be missed by many. He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, Jaxon, Emma, Callie, and Kason. He also enjoyed his Friday night supper club, fishing, learning about history, and telling stories and jokes.
