Bullying Lasts a Lifetime, Says Study
While some parents think bullying is something their children will “grow out of,” a new study from Duke University revealed that bullying increases the risk of anxiety and depressive disorders for decades after the incidents, and not just for the victims. The researchers kept tabs on more than 1000 children for up to 20 years and discovered that victims of bullying, and even the bullies themselves, are much more likely to develop severe problems into adulthood.
The lead author of the study, Dr. William Copeland, said one group was even more troubled than the others: those who responded to being the victims of bullying by bullying others.
Oregon-Davis and South Central Schools Sponsoring Anti-Bullying Program Today
Oregon-Davis and South Central Schools are partnering to bring in a noted anti-bullying expert to talk with students today. Michael Dorn is one of the nation’s most experienced and highly credentialed school safety experts who has authored or co-authored 18 books on the subject. His program is entitled “Weak-Fish”.
Oregon-Davis Superintendent Dr. Steve Disney is very aware of bullying in school, and has added an individual to help with student intimidation.
Eastern Pulaski Schools under Fire for Bullying
More than 20 students, parents, and other members of the Eastern Pulaski Schools community spoke out at the recent school board meeting against bullying in school, which has gotten out of hand.
Parents expressed their anger at the corporation for doing what they feel is a minimum to prevent or discipline bullying in the school system. Several parents said that their children are afraid to use bathrooms or even attend extracurricular activities for fear of bullies.
