LaPorte Resident Dies in Rollover Crash on State Road 39

A single-vehicle rollover crash has claimed the life of a LaPorte resident. LaPorte County Police say it happened around 8:15 Saturday night on State Road 39 near the ramps to the Indiana Toll Road. Deputies believe a 2005 Ford SUV was heading north on State Road 39, when it left the east side of the roadway, rolled several times, became upright, and traveled back onto 39, before eventually coming to a stop.

Washington Township Fire Results in Countywide Cooperative Effort

The Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call about a structure fire in the 8,000 block of 50 South shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday.

Washington Township Fire Chief Dave Pearman reported that all seven of the county’s volunteer departments assisted with the incident. Knox-Center Township, Hamlet, Bass Lake and Koontz Lake departments helped on the scene while North Judson Wayne-Township and Rail-Road Township departments helped cover neighboring districts to ensure that no areas were without assistance.

Chief Pearman said that crews utilized positive pressure ventilation to blow smoke out of the house and reported it took approximately one hour to take control of the fire. Continue reading

Local Fire Departments Receive Indiana Homeland Security Foundation Grants

  
 

Fire departments in LaPorte and and a town in Pulaski County are among the recipients of grants from the Indiana Homeland Security Foundation. Statewide more than $370,000 was given to 101 recipients in 61 counties for critical needs. Eligible projects include equipping emergency responders with personal protective equipment, acquiring equipment for use by emergency responders, providing radios and technology equipment and training for emergency responders.
