Arrowhead Country RC&D Explains Grant Framework for Starke Forest Recommendation

A local conservation agency says they don’t require specialist input prior to delivering on grant fund requests.

The comments come after a recommendation by the Starke County Park Board to seek grants from Arrowhead Country RC&D. If selected, monies would be used to construct a bypass ditch across the south side of the Starke County Forest. The work aims to move water around a decades-old marsh, preventing damage to wildlife in the area.

Grant Applications Now Being Accepted for Hometown Collaboration Initiative

  
 

Applications are now open for grants serving communities with a population under 25-thousand.

The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, or OCRA, says applications may be submitted online for their Hometown Collaboration Initiative. The grants can be used for the development of local leaders, economic development, or improving quality of place in local communities.

Culver Scrutinizes Timetable for Water Treatment Facility Upgrades

A couple of meetings have been scheduled in the Town of Culver to help keep a project in line with potential funding options.

A water treatment facility has been designed, but bids for the construction and renovation of the site were delayed from earlier this month until May 21st. Due to the change, the Town of Culver has been worked to ensure its ducks are in a row.

Winamac Water Surveys Complete, Data Being Compiled

The last of the necessary surveys has been received to qualify for grant funds.

The Town of Winamac has expressed interest in exploring for additional water resources. Currently, there are two wellheads in the same water source that Winamac pulls from to bring water to local homes. Concerns over safety and contamination, however, have prompted the town to solicit funds to explore for a new source of water.

Local Authorities Not Participating In Operation Pullover

 
 

A federally funded program that allows law enforcement officers to work additional hours will not be in use in Starke County this year.

Operation Pull Over is designed to target areas that are considered problematic by enforcing traffic laws and seatbelt violations more aggressively. The Knox City Police Department oversaw the program’s operation last year in conjunction with the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

KIRPC to Manage Star City Sewer Project Grant

A grant in the amount of $587,253 is to be received by Pulaski County to assist in funding the construction of the Star City sewer project, a new sanitary sewer system for the unincorporated community. This project, which is funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), is to come from CDBG funds that were made available for economic recovery after many areas were damaged by natural disasters in 2008.
