The Knox Community School Corporation may launch its own alternative high school this fall. On Tuesday, the school board agreed to let administrators continue working on plans for a “Redskin Academy.”
The Knox School Board is thinking about issuing bonds for $5 million worth of facility improvements. Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart reviewed the proposed work, as well as some preliminary cost estimates, with the school board Tuesday.

The Knox Community School Corporation is moving ahead with a facilities study. The school board voted Monday to hire architectural firm Schmidt Associates to do the work, according to Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart. He says the study will cost about $21,000.
The Knox Community School Corporation expects to save some money on insurance costs. “Liberty Mutual Insurance is our liability and property insurance carrier, and they have dropped their rates slightly from what we were paying last year,” Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart told the school board last week. The Knox Community School Corporation may be asking residents for a tax increase to fund facility upgrades in the coming years. During a school board work session last week, Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart explained that if school officials decide a referendum is needed, he wants to be ready to do it in May or November of 2019.
Confusion over school colors has led to frustration for some Knox School Board members. During Monday’s meeting, member Wendy McIntire called for the board to make a definitive decision, saying the situation is currently a free-for-all. “I’m a little aggravated when you can’t even tell that that’s our team on a lot of it,” she said. Knox students who don’t have enough money for lunch will get some assistance, thanks to the generosity of the local community.
Several Knox school administrators will be getting a raise, following action by the school board Monday. “The board approved raises for administrators from anywhere between zero up to $2,000,” says Superintendent Dr. William Reichhart,” depending upon the administrator and the evaluation that was done on that particular administrator.”
