Rural LaPorte County Man Dies, Following Crash North of LaPorte

A rural LaPorte County man is dead, after reportedly crashing a vehicle into a tree early Monday morning. Officers with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office believe 34-year-old Bryan Meyer was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer southbound on Fail Road about a mile north of LaPorte around 3:00 a.m., when it left the east side of the roadway and struck a tree. Mobile Health Unit to Visit Starke County for Colon Cancer, Sleep Apnea Awareness

Colon cancer prevention will bring LaPorte Hospital’s Mobile Health Unit to local communities this month. March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and LaPorte Hospital officials will be traveling around Starke and LaPorte counties to hand out take-home test kits. Cooling Centers Available to Help Beat the Heat


Cooling centers are available throughout the area to help residents beat the heat. A heat advisory remains in effect through tomorrow night. The National Weather Service cautions heat index values will top 100 degrees today and hover near that mark tomorrow. Dangerous heat and humidity may continue through Sunday.
