The staff at the Henry F. Schricker Public Library in Knox are completing work since the new children’s wing was recently opened.
Library Director Sheila Urwiler said they are moving some shelving and installing some new furniture. Every attempt is being made to tie up loose ends in the project.
The Henry F. Schricker Library in Knox will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 4–6, to allow workers to move into the newly created Children’s and Young Adult areas. Library Director Sheila Urwiler explained that all other locations of the library system will remain open Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Hamlet branch will be open Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The San Pierre branch will be open Tuesday as well from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to assist patrons.
The Starke County Library construction project has been on hold throughout the winter season as most of the work that needs to be done first has been outdoors.
Library Director Sheila Urwiler said the under-sub duct work is being done and when that is finished the foundation will be poured. Walls will be built after the foundation is complete.
E-Books and E-Audio Books have come to the Starke County Library system. Library Director, Sheila Urwiler, talks about the service.
“You get to check them out for one to two weeks, and at the end of the period the title just expires. So there are no late fees, you can’t be charged for anything. It’s a free service. We think people will really enjoy it.” Urwiler said.
We asked Sheila how many books are available.
“Oh, several thousand, and its growing rapidly. We’re part of a consortium, with other Northern Indiana libraries. Because of that, we are able to offer a lot more titles than we could if we just had to build the collection on our own. It’s both E-Books and E-Audio Books where you can download a book and listen to it.”
