Medaryville Woman Arrested after Accident

A Medaryville woman was arrested on Tuesday night after reportedly swerving to miss a deer and going off the road while she was driving under the influence.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 24-year-old Alexandria Burns and passenger Melvin R. Taylor, of Medaryville, were on State Road 106 and Plymouth-Goshen Trail in Marshall County when a deer ran out in the roadway. Burns swerved to miss the deer and her vehicle ran off the highway and rolled over, as accounted in the report.

Police say a Taylor suffered a broken collar bone in the accident.

Burns was arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

Two Arrested on Warrants for Dealing Drugs

Plymouth Police officers arrested two people in separate incidents who were wanted for dealing drugs.

On Monday, Jan. 8, officers stopped 29-year-old Wayne Austin Hardesty, of Grovertown, who was reportedly speeding and found that he had an active warrant for two counts of dealing in a schedule III drug. He was booked in the Marshall County Jail on those charges with a cash bond of $10,005.

Two Arrested after Traffic Stop

Two Knox residents were arrested overnight Friday after a traffic stop in the area of Rose Road and Lincoln Highway in Marshall County.

Marshall County Police say a K9 searched the 2006 Kia passenger vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics. Officers reportedly found two used syringes under the passenger seat, plus 3.5 grams of heroin hidden underneath the floor carpeting on the driver’s side. Other items of drug paraphernalia were also allegedly collected.

Culver Man Arrested on Suspicion of Auto Theft

Culver man was arrested Wednesday after Marshall County police received a call about an apparent car theft from a residence in the 7,000 block of 11A Road.

An officer with the Bourbon Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle reportedly matching the description of the stolen vehicle. During the course of the investigation, police reportedly found 58-year-old Ronald Bryan Finchum in possession of methamphetamine.

Finchum was booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary felony charges of auto theft and possession of methamphetamine.

Hamlet Man Charged in Accidental Shooting

 
 

A Hamlet man was booked into the Marshall County Jail on Sunday after an accidental shooting incident in Marshall County at the end of January.

According to court documents, David J. Paulson, 35, and a four-year-old child were in a vehicle traveling west on U.S. 30 and Beech Road in Bourbon on Jan. 31 when the child allegedly picked up a loaded .40 caliber handgun from a pocket Paulson’s coveralls in the backseat of the vehicle. The handgun discharged, and Paulson suffered a wound to the back of his right upper arm.

Marshall County Jail to Update Inmate Communications

  
 

The communication system for inmate phone calls and visitation at the Marshall County Jail will get an upgrade after the commissioners approved a contract Tuesday morning with a new vendor.

Sheriff Tom Chamberlin told the commissioners that the company, Telmate, not only offers the telephone option for inmates, but also video visitation at an off-site location. Family members can schedule a video visitation with an inmate by going through officials at Telmate. Chamberlin explained that kiosks will be placed in the cells for video visitation as well as computers. The inmates will use the notebook computers if the kiosks are being used.

Linderman Arrested on Warrant after 2011 Incident

Plymouth City police officers have arrested a suspect after investigating additional information received from a case in 2011.

The additional information was received on Nov. 4, 2014 regarding a house fire at 707 Pearl Street in Plymouth on March 3, 2011. According to a previous report, an explosion occurred at the residence where a victim was severely burned and another injured. A meth lab was discovered at the residence.

Detectives followed up on the additional information received and requested the reports be reviewed by the Marshall County Prosecutor.

Plymouth Man Arrested on Suspicion of Child Molestation

A Plymouth man is accused of child molesting after a report was made about an incident involving a teenager.

On Sunday, Oct. 26, Plymouth City Police Department officers received a complaint of sexual activity between a 20-year-old man and a 13-year-old female, according to a news release. Police say during the course of the investigation, information revealed that two sexual encounters took place at a location in Plymouth on Monday, Oct. 6 and on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Devante Halcomb, 20, was interrogated by police on Monday, Oct. 27 and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of child molesting as a Level 3 felony. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash.

Two Arrested in Separate Domestic Battery Incidents

A man was arrested after allegedly battering a pregnant woman and a child.

On Wednesday night, Marshall County deputies were called to a home in the 13,000 block of State Road 17 where they found that the victim had fled the residence. The suspect, Jason Phillips, had also left the residence prior to the officer’s arrival. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.

During the course of the investigation, police discovered that a young boy was also battered. Police were able to locate Phillips in Rochester and with the help of the Rochester Police Department he was taken into custody on Thursday.

Plymouth Business Robbed, Owner Arrested on Warrant

A burglary and robbery incident at a Plymouth business is being investigated by the Plymouth Police Department.

On Wednesday night, a report was made regarding a burglary and robbery that took place in the 1500 block of Hoham Drive in Plymouth. Hubert Dulworth, 40, told police that an unknown subject had broken into his business and then attacked him. He added that he was hit on the head and became unconscious. A large amount of cash was also reported stolen.

Dulworth was taken to the local hospital for treatment.

Marshall County Commissioners Sign Papers for Movement in Jail Bond Refinancing

  
 

The Marshall County Commissioners approved the action of signing a preliminary official statement for Umbaugh and Associates in an attempt to move the refinancing of the 2006 jail bonds through at a quicker pace.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger told the commissioners that the paperwork is behind schedule, but he anticipated rates will be ideal for the county to move forward. It’s the hope of the commissioners and the county council to reduce the payments on the bonds each year through 2026. The county also wants to have flexibility to keep the funds in reserve to either pay off the bonds sooner or apply those funds for additional capacity at the jail or operational costs due to sentencing changes and the potential impact.

Plymouth Woman Arrested on Forgery, Identity Theft Charges

A Plymouth woman was arrested on Monday after allegedly presenting a counterfeit identification card at a medical facility.

When Plymouth City Police Department officers arrived at the facility in the 2800 block of Miller Drive in Plymouth, they reportedly saw Xiomara Duarte, 40, sign a document with the fictitious name on the counterfeit identification card.

Duarte was questioned and reportedly admitted to signing the fictitious name. She also admitted to purchasing the counterfeit card, according to police.

Man Arrested on Forgery, Counterfeiting Charges

A man suspected of presenting a counterfeit check to two businesses has been arrested.

The investigation began Wednesday, Aug. 27 where Plymouth police officers were notified of the incident. A man who identified himself as Jason Milton attempted to purchase a Polaris Ranger at Turn One Motorsports in the amount of $11,000 with a check. The suspect was to pick up the item the following day. Further examination found that the check and the man’s identity were counterfeit.

Other businesses that sell these off-road vehicles were notified of the incident.

The next day, North End Cycle Shop in Elkhart reported that the same man entered their store and attempted to buy a Polaris Ranger. An officer with the Elkhart Police Department took the check into evidence.

The suspect was later identified as Armen Jerome Sylvester and he was arrested and incarcerated in the Marshall County Jail.

Sylvester, 53, has preliminary charges of forgery, counterfeiting, attempted theft, and identity deception. His bond has been set at $10,000 cash.
