Plymouth Woman Arrested on Battery, Neglect Charges

An 18-year-old Plymouth woman was arrested early Thursday morning after an investigation into a battery incident.

Plymouth emergency personnel were called to a home in the 200 block of East Lake Street in Plymouth on a report that a one-month-old infant was having difficulty breathing. The infant was later transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Plymouth police conducted an investigation and found that the infant’s mother, Diana Turner, caused the baby’s serious injuries two hours prior to the medical call.

Fugitive William Newman in Custody

A fugitive who has been on the run after a high-speed police chase in Marshall County has been arrested. He was taken into custody after Marshall County officers learned he was at a home in Argos. Around 6:00 p.m. ET last night, police gained consent to enter the property and arrested William Newman. He was wanted on a Marshall County warrant and a felony drug warrant out of Fulton County. Traffic Stop Leads to South Bend Man’s Arrest on Drug Charges

A South Bend man was arrested earlier this month in Marshall County after a traffic stop led to the discovery of controlled substances. On Saturday, Dec. 8 around 9:33 p.m., an officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for an equipment violation on Sycamore Road just north of State Road 17.

As the officer spoke with the driver, he became suspicious that he was under the influence of drugs. A quick investigation led to the discovery of marijuana and prescription medication in the driver’s possession. The suspect submitted to a certified test and was subsequently arrested on charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated On Controlled Substances.

Devin Taviner, 28 of South Bend, was arrested and booked in the Marshall County Jail on a $1500 bond.

Plymouth Man Arrested on Child Molestation Charges

A Plymouth man was arrested early Friday morning on a charge of Child Molestation.

On October 18, the Plymouth Police Department received a report from the Department of Child Services regarding a 15-year-old female who had become pregnant and had the baby when she was 13. An investigation was conducted and it was learned that she was a victim of child molestation.

A warrant was issued in this case for the arrest of 24-year-old Adam M. Macias on November 8 and he was located and arrested on a charge of Child Molestation. He is lodged in the Marshall County Jail on $10,000 cash bond.

Two Arrested For Credit Card Theft, Fraud in Lapaz

Two Lapaz residents were recently arrested on fraud charges after using a credit card that belonged to another Lapaz resident.

The victim told police that some unknown people entered her vehicle and stole her purse. The suspects had used the credit cards in the wallet to make purchases at several local establishments. Surveillance footage was obtained by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Nicole Martin and Justin Haining were identified as using the stolen credit cards.

They were located and arrested on preliminary charges of Theft, Fraud and Forgery.

Two Arrested On Theft Charges At Walmart

Two Hamlet residents were arrested Tuesday after an altercation in a parking lot by Walmart in Plymouth.

Plymouth police officers responded to the area after dispatchers learned that Jeffrey Gibson had pulled an alleged stolen item out of his pants. The woman with him, Kayla Thompson, reportedly returned the item.

The pair were taken to the Marshall County Jail for a preliminary charge of Theft and Gibson has an additional charge of Disorderly Conduct.

Three Arrested For Theft At Plymouth Walmart

Three individuals were arrested Wednesday after allegedly stealing items from Walmart in Plymouth. According to Plymouth police, Walmart employees informed police that three suspects from South Bend were reportedly stealing items from the store at roughly 10 p.m.

When police arrived, they learned that Cesar C. Cruz was also in possession of a fraudulent identification card not issued by the government. Cruz, along with Heather M. Cruz and Saralee H. Tillinghast, were arrested on charges of Theft.

Tillinghast was also found to have an active arrest warrant through Elkhart County. The trio was booked into the Marshall County Jail with an initial court date of Sept. 4.

Two Arrested By Plymouth Police This Week

Officers from the Plymouth Police Department were called to The Mayflower on Wednesday after a suspicious vehicle was spotted in the parking lot.

When the officers arrived on scene, two men were in a red pickup truck that reportedly had been parked there for two hours. Upon further investigation, Bryan T. Miller, 30, of Plymouth was arrested on a preliminary charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.

Plymouth Police Arrest Man Twice in One Day

The Marshall County Jail staff booked in the same person twice in one day.

On Monday, Plymouth police were called to Dollar Tree after a caller reported seeing a man, later identified as 39-year-old Seth Enders, of Plymouth, going through a car and removing items. The officer found Enders and after a pat-down search, found drug and paraphernalia in his possession. He was booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary charges of Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of Controlled Substances and Possession of Marijuana. His bond was set at $3,000.

Three Arrested for Theft from Walmart in Plymouth

Three Starke County residents were arrested on theft charges after two separate incidents.

On Monday, Plymouth Police officers were notified that Jacob D. Fier and Michael J. Hardel, of Knox, were allegedly shoplifting while in Walmart. They were going to flee the scene, but the pair went back into the store. They have preliminary charges of Theft and were incarcerated in the Marshall County Jail.

Plymouth Man Arrested after Crash Investigation

A man involved in a crash near Plymouth Monday afternoon that injured him and a child is being held in the Marshall County jail on $100,000 bond.

Police say 29-year-old Anthony McNeal of Plymouth was attempting to cross U.S. 31 at the intersection of 2C Road and pulled into the path of an oncoming semi. The semi hit the passenger side of the vehicle and it spun off the roadway. McNeal was reportedly unrestrained and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. His daughter, 6-month-old Reese McNeal was a passenger in the vehicle. She was transported by ambulance to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.

Two Knox Residents Arrested after Theft Incident at Plymouth Walmart

Two Knox residents were arrested after they were allegedly caught stealing from Walmart in Plymouth Monday night.

Plymouth police were called to Walmart after Loss Prevention Officers found Sasha Glover and Colleen Henry trying to remove merchandise without paying. Glover was detained without incident, but Henry, who told police her name was Kelley Halt, fled from the scene. She ran toward the Bob Evans restaurant before police took her into custody. When she decided to flee, she left her four-year-old son unattended. Walmart employees tended to his safety.

Plymouth Man Arrested on Warrant

A Plymouth man was arrested Friday on an arrest warrant for drugs.

On January 12th, Chief Jim Cox, Detective Sergeant Leo Mangus and Investigator Ted Brown from the Plymouth Police Department were at a residence in the 17000 block of Lincoln Highway in Plymouth in regards to a theft call. During the investigation, Stewart Hummel, 33, was observed attempting to hide a methamphetamine lab in the garage. He then ran from the residence and police could not locate Hummel.

Marshall County Jail Inmate Dies

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and the Marshall County Coronor’s Office are investigating the death of Marshall County Jail inmate, Georgia M. Onofre.

The 35-year-old woman was in a special observation area in the jail due to her past medical history and was under constant surveillance by jail staff. She became unresponsive around 4:00 a.m. ET yesterday morning and jail staff immediately started resuscitation efforts. Plymouth paramedics transported Onofre to the Emergency Department where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Starke County Commissioners Tour Another Jail

The Starke County Commissioners toured another jail this week. They had recently visited the Marshall and Miami County jails. On Monday, they went to Rensselaer to tour the Jasper County Jail.

The tour of the 128 bed facility was conducted by Sheriff Terry Risner. The Jasper County jail is two years old and was moved from its former downtown Rensselaer location to property north of the city on State Road 231. Continue reading

Starke County Commissioners Tour Jail Facilities in Marshall, Miami Counties

Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem described the jail tour made by the Commissioners last week as worthwhile. The Commissioners and Sheriff Oscar Cowen toured the Marshall and Miami County jails and although both used the same “footprint”, Marshall County rolled more equipment into their bond issue.

Norem wanted it known that the trip was not made because of the Jack Haut class action suit against the County, claiming deplorable conditions in the Starke County Jail.
