Mint Festival Update Provided to North Judson Town Council

When North Judson Town Council members met this week, they received a brief update about the Mint Festival from event organizer Donna Henry.

According to Henry, everything is on schedule. She told members that they received a grant for the pedal tractor pull. She also mentioned that organizers are waiting to hear back from Knox Community School Officials about using the middle school for the Mint Festival Pageant since NJSP will be unavailable due renovation projects planned this summer.

At a previous meeting, Henry shared that the theme this year is ‘Mint to be Friends’ which was inspired by some new friends the Mint Festival representatives made recently. Continue reading

North Judson Mint Festival Begins Today

  
 

The theme of the 37th annual North Judson Mint Festival sets up a supreme scene that begins tonight!

There’s something for everyone; young or old, person or pet, the festival has something for you to do. A carnival will be in the Catholic church parking lot all weekend. Music lovers have something to look forward to because several area bands will take the stage at Norwayne Field Friday, Saturday and Sunday at various times during the festival.

Mint Idol Contest Deadline Approaching

 Do you have what it takes to be a singing sensation? Don’t hide your talent, share it with the everyone at the North Judson Mint Festival in the Mint Idol contest! Friday, June 6 is the entry deadline for the Friday, June 13 contest, so get your application in as soon as possible! The competition is open to individuals ages 5 and up. All participants will receive ribbons, and first, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each age group. Age groups are as follows: 5-9, 10-13, 14-17 and 18 and older. Contestants under 18 require parental consent. Contestants must have their song chosen and ready to go in time for the Thursday June 12 rehearsal. It will take place from 6 until 9 p.m CDT at St. Peter Lutheran School in North Judson. Tracks cannot have lead vocals. Music on CDs, MP3 players, iPods and phones are acceptable, but contestants are responsible for bringing the appropriate connector or format to play the songs. Mint Festival Father/Grandfather of the Year Deadline Nears

  
 

The deadline to enter the annual North Judson Mint Festival Father & Grandfather of the Year contest is fast approaching. Entries are due Saturday, May 31. Any child from the North Judson – San Pierre School District can nominate their father or grandfather. The essay must be in a child’s handwriting and include the name of their father or grandfathers as well as their name, an address and phone number. All local NJ-SP children are encouraged to get involved. Proposals can be sent to Father/Grandfather of the Year, Mint Festival, P.O. Box 33, North Judson, IN 46366.

The North Judson Mint Festival is June 13-15 and the theme this year is “Mint is Supreme in 2014”.

All of your favorite events are coming back this year: Father/Grandfather of the Year Contest, magic and puppet shows, bingo, lots of vendors, a frog jumping contest, pork chop dinner, car show and swap meet, Pet Fun Walk and Parade, music and the parade.

The Mint Queen pageant will be sponsored by CenturyLink and the last scheduled sign-up is this Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. CT at the North Judson-Wayne Township Public Library. For information on the Mint Festival Queen pageant, call Teresa at (219) 205-2440.

North Judson Mint Festival Pageant to Be Held Friday

  
 
The North Judson Mint Festival pageant is just one day away and Festival Committee Member Teresa Trout said the pageant will feature at least 20 contestants, possibly more. She said the committee is still waiting to receive applications and fundraiser money from six girls, despite the fact that these items were due May 31.

Trout said last year’s pageant queen has been working closely with the committee and held a class on May 18 at the library in North Judson, offering contestants the chance to learn what to expect at the pageant, how to put on their makeup, how to walk, what they should wear, and how they should talk to help them have a better overall pageant experience.

North Judson Mint Festival Featured in Webcast

  
 

The upcoming North Judson Mint Festival is getting some exposure in cyberspace. Organizers of the Father’s Day weekend festival have taped a web segment for South Bend-based WNIT Public Television’s “Experience Michiana” program. This year marks the festival’s 36th anniversary. The theme is “Mint is Green in 2013.” Festivities begin Friday, June 14 with the carnival in the Catholic Church parking lot, music from Hoosier Highway at Norwayne Field starting at 5 p.m. prior to the father and grandfather of the year presentation. Afterward the Joe Feingold Project will take the stage at Norwayne Field.

Mint Festival Planning Underway

Planning for the 35th Annual North Judson Mint Festival is in full swing, says Clerk-Treasurer Donna Henry. The festival will take place on Father’s Day weekend, as always, June 15, 16, and 17.

The committee is currently working on organizing the Mint Pageant, where people will vote for the Mint King and Queen, Prince and Princess, as well as Little Miss and Little Mister. The pageant will take place Sunday, May 20, at 6 p.m. in the North Judson – San Pierre High School Auditorium. North Judson Town Board Approves Reallocation of Funds, Mint Festival Special Event Permit

The North Judson Town Board approved the reallocation of funds in the 2011 budget to allow a three percent increase for full-time Town employees for this year. The employees have not had a raise in three years. The reallocation did not effect the budget’s bottom line. The Town’s approved budget total is $767,964 for 2011.

The Board also approved a special event permit for the North Judson Mint Festival Committee. The Mint Festival will be held June 17th-19th, 2011.
