The Indiana Court of Appeals released a decision regarding the charges filed against former Knox High School teacher Robert “Ryan” Corbin.

A hearing was held in September in the Indiana Court of Appeals where oral arguments were heard in the case of Robert “Ryan” Corbin who was accused of two counts of Attempted Child Seduction. It was Corbin’s attempt to overturn Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall’s denial of a motion to dismiss the charges of Attempted Child Seduction against him.

Robert Corbin, Nathan Hummel have Hearings in Starke Circuit Court

The initial hearing for Robert Ryan Corbin was held in Starke Circuit Court Tuesday. Corbin is charged with two counts of Attempted Child Seduction after he allegedly sent inappropriate Facebook messages and that he wanted to pick her up. He also requested pictures of the student and asked her explicit questions.

A preliminary plea of not guilty was entered for Corbin, who has retained Attorney Nicholas T. Otis of Newby Lewis Kaminski and Jones in LaPorte. His attorney announced his intent to file a motion to dismiss the charges and the state has 30 days to respond to the motion. The first pre-trial conference date for Corbin has been set for June 6th at 8:30 a.m., with a hearing on the motion to dismiss to take place at 9:00 a.m. Continue reading

Corbin Retains Attorney

Attorney Nicholas T. Otis, of Newby Lewis Kaminski & Jones, of LaPorte, has been retained by Mr. Robert “Ryan” Corbin regarding the pending criminal charges in Starke County.

In a news release to WKVI, Otis says that established Indiana law does not support the charges of attempted child seduction against Corbin. There is no evidence that Mr. Corbin was in the physical presence, or in the immediate vicinity, of the alleged victim when the alleged statements were made.

Knox Gym Teacher Arrested on Child Seduction Charges

The Knox City Police Department continues to investigate an alleged improper internet contact incident between a Knox High School gym teacher and a student.

Police investigated a complaint last week where a parent reported the act. Robert “Ryan” Corbin, 27, of Knox, was arrested Sunday as a result of the preliminary investigation. He faces preliminary charges of Child Seduction and Attempted Child Seduction, both Class D Felonies. He is being held in the Starke County Jail under no bond.
