Hamlet American Legion Presents Park Board with More than $5,000 for Tauteris Walkway

The Hamlet American Legion officially presented the money it raised toward the Robert J. Tauteris Jr. Memorial Walkway to the town’s park board Wednesday. “We have a check to the Town of Hamlet for $5,058 on behalf of our Legion and the donations that we worked on and received over the last two years,” Vice Commander Phil Mitchell told board members.

Hamlet Park Board to Continue Planning for Memorial Walking Path Tonight

The Hamlet Town Park’s proposed walking path is expected to be discussed by the park board tonight. The Hamlet American Legion has reportedly raised over $5,000 to build a walking path in memory of Robert J. Tauteris Jr. The park board and other project organizers are expected to discuss plans in more detail during a closed executive session tonight, before the park board’s regular meeting at 6:30.

Congressman Joe Donnelly took a few minutes to talk on the House floor about Robert Tauteris, Jr., of Hamlet, who died while serving his country in Afghanistan.

Robert’s two sons, Robert J. Tauteris III and Mathew, plus his daughter-in-law, Kayla, watched his speech from the gallery in the House chamber.

Church Group Looking to Protest Military Funerals

While our citizens here mourn the deaths of the four National Guardsmen who were killed in Afghanistan January 5th, there is a church group headquartered in Topeka, Kansas that uses military funerals as a way to espouse its hatred of homosexuals, and by extension, our fallen heroes. The congregation of the Westboro Baptist Church has included on its web site the names of Spc. Robert Tauteris Jr., and Spc Brian Leonhardt. They have urged their followers to demonstrate at the funerals of both men.

Robert Tauteris, Jr.’s Body to Arrive in Indiana Saturday

A U.S. Army carry team transfers the remains of Army Spc. Robert Tauteris, Jr. at Dover Air Force Base

The body of Robert Tauteris, Jr. of Hamlet, will be arriving in Valparaiso from Dover, Delaware Saturday morning at approximately 9:20 a.m. A procession will leave Valparaiso between 9:45-10:00 a.m. and follow the route of U.S. 30 to U.S. 421 to State Road 10 into North Judson. If you wish to safely line the streets to greet the procession, you are welcome to do so.
