A black and yellow tow-behind Atlas Copco air compressor, a 90 pound jackhammer and a chipping hammer were stolen recently from the LaPorte County Airport. They disappeared sometime between May 29 and June 5, according to the report filed with the LaPorte City Police. The items were last seen near the construction site for the airport’s new hangar. LaPorte Police Investigating Silver Theft

police investigation 2Police in LaPorte are investigating the theft of numerous sterling silver items valued at more than $2,200 from an antique store. The items, mostly jewelry, were taken sometime between April 21st and 24th from Coachman’s Antique Mall at the corner of Lincolnway and Jackson Streets, according to the police report. A store employee told the police that someone broke the lock off a display case and took the merchandise. Valuables Stolen From Unlocked Vehicle

LaPorte Police DepartmentIf you’re going to leave valuable electronics in your vehicle, you may want to make sure your doors are locked. A LaPorte man told police that an Apple iPod, a Garmin GPS unit and a Coach brand backpack were taken from inside his unlocked Suzuki sometime overnight Friday. It was parked in the 300 block of Harrison Street. The LaPorte Police Department is investigating the theft.

 

Internet Casanova Pleads Guilty to Theft Charge

The Marshall County man who has left a string of broken hearts and bad debt from Oregon to Indiana has pleaded guilty to a theft charge in St. Joseph County. A woman who met Raymond Holycross online last fall called the police after discovering he had pawned the expensive digital camera she loaned him. She also discovered he used several aliases to woo and swindle unsuspecting women. Holycross agreed to plead guilty to a theft charge in exchange for not serving more than 18 months in prison. The agreement also recommends he pay restitution of $956 to his victim. Holycross will be sentenced on May 8. At that time the judge can either accept his plea or throw it out and send his case to trial. He may also reduce the D felony to an A misdemeanor since Holycross hasn’t been convicted of any similar charges. He does have charges pending in other jurisdictions but is not to be moved unless the judge in St. Joseph County approves it first.

 

LaPorte Police foil shoplifting attempt

A 17-year-old faces theft and false informing charges after he reportedly stole a piece of aluminum foil from a LaPorte grocery store last night. Store employees at Al’s Supermarket on SR 2 W. saw the male suspect take a box of aluminum foil off the shelf and put it down in a different location. They checked the box and found it opened with a section of foil missing. When the employees approached the youngster, police say he admitted taking some of the foil to use as a television antenna. He then gave them his name and asked if he could be released to his parents. Attempts to contact his parents were unsuccessful, and police discovered he gave them a false identity. He also smelled of burnt marijuana, according to police. The teen was arrested and taken to the juvenile services center.

North Judson Man Arrested For Theft Of Air Compressor

A North Judson man was arrested Wednesday after a theft investigation.

On Monday, July 9, Rebecca Brown told Starke County police that an air compressor was stolen from a pole barn on her property at 1417 W. 400 S. in North Judson. She went to the pawn shop on Tuesday, July 10 and found the air compressor. After an investigation, police found that the air compressor was pawned by Michael Tolson well before she discovered it was missing. Tolson, 22, was arrested on a preliminary charge of Theft. He is in the Starke County jail with no bond.

Charges Filed Against Six in Pulaski County for Theft

After a month of investigating into the scrap metal theft mystery in Pulaski, White, and Jasper counties, felony charges have been filed against six different people.

The thieves have allegedly stolen farm and semi tractors, farm implements, irrigation pump parts, and many other items – all adding up to tens of thousands of dollars being stolen. Pulaski County Detectives Dave Walters and Scott Taylor figured out that the stolen items had ended up in scrap yards. Since scrap yards are required to keep records of where and who their metals come from, they were able to easily find out who the perpetrators were.

Winamac Man Arrested for Fraud, Theft

Andrew W. Sturgeon, 25, of Winamac was arrested Tuesday by Pulaski County Police on a warrant. The warrant included charges of Fraud on a Financial Institution, a Class C Felony; and Theft, a Class D Felony. Sturgeon allegedly stole $947.77 through false deposits and withdrawals.

According to the police report, officers were dispatched to First Federal Savings Bank in Winamac. When the officer arrived and spoke with Assistant Branch Manager Rhonda Lower, he was told that a customer, Sturgeon, had been making deposits at ATMs that were not correct. On June 24th, Sturgeon reportedly made a deposit of $300 at an ATM near the bank. When checked, there was only $30 in the envelope. After making the deposit, Sturgeon withdrew $260 from the account, which actually had a balance of only $30.92.
