Tour de La Porte Starts Today!

More than one-thousand people from various cities and states will gather this weekend for fun and fundraising at the 16th annual Tour de La Porte walking, running and cycling event sponsored by the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte. 100 percent of proceeds from the event go to benefit local cancer patients directly. The money can assist with things like treatment, medication and wigs as well as in town and out of town transportation costs and even child care. Continue reading

Tour de La Porte Planned For Today, Tomorrow

The annual Tour de La Porte bike, run, and walk event is planned for today and tomorrow at Soldiers Memorial Park in La Porte. This event is designed to raise money for local cancer patients.

There are millions of families around the world that have their own stories of how cancer has affected them, whether it be personally or by a loved one having the dreaded disease. One story in particular is that of the Sobecki family. Linda Sobecki found out that she had lung cancer three years ago. She worked at Blue Chip Casino Hotel & Spa for a significant amount of time, until she no longer could due to the worsening condition of her disease. Her husband Jeff was able to use the family’s health insurance to pay for the majority of the bills, but not long after Sobecki stopped working, Jeff lost his job at the regional steel mill as well.

Drivers Urged Caution During Tour de La Porte

IU Health La Porte Hospital would like to remind drivers to watch La Porte County roads for closures and cyclists on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26, during the La Porte Hospital Foundation’s 11th Annual Tour de La Porte bike, run, and walk event to benefit local cancer patients.

The tour includes a number of running and walking events throughout the morning on Saturday, including a half-marathon 21K chip-timed competitive run as well as a 10K run, 5K run, and 5K walk. All events will begin and end at Soldiers Memorial Park La Porte, and consequently, temporary road closures are necessary around the area to ensure the safety of participants and residents.
