Starke County officials are taking action now to ensure every veteran buried in the county has a flag and marker placed at their gravesite over Memorial Day weekend.
The county commissioners have asked Veterans Service Officer Mark Gourley to work with the American Legions to ensure each gets enough flags for the cemeteries they cover. They’ve also asked him to figure out whether the North Judson or Knox post is responsible for the placement of flags at Round Lake Cemetery.
Last year the commissioners agreed to pay for the flags and markers if the American Legion Posts would let them know how many were needed.
