CCMG Project Underway in Starke County

The Starke County Commissioners discussed their Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) project during their meeting Monday.

In a previous story, Starke County Highway Interim Superintendent Rachel Oesterreich announced the county had been approved by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) for the 2024-01 CCMG project. She added they had been granted the full $1.5 million for the project that will consist of a hot mix asphalt inlay on 600 North, in certain areas from 600 East to State Road 23, 400 North from U.S. 35 to Range Road and the new road within Deer View Estates Subdivision.

As previously reported, the county applied for the CCMG through INDOT this past January. The grant is an 80/20 match with the county needing to put forth $500,000 from the MVH Restricted Fund. The total cost of the project is around $2 million with the $1.5 million coming from the grant.

During a previous meeting, a motion was made to approve the lowest bid received from Milestone Contractors out of South Bend in the amount of $899,900. That motion was seconded and passed unanimously by vote.

On Monday, Oesterreich informed the commissioners the project is on schedule and should be completed sometime later this summer. She informed WKVI News, the work is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
