Starke County Commissioners Hear Update from Surf Internet

The Starke County Commissioners heard an update from Surf Internet during their meeting Monday.

Surf Internet CEO Gene Cruise announced they have completed their work in Knox and North Judson. He added work in Koontz Lake and Hamlet are also underway. Cruise stated the total amount Surf has contributed in bringing fiber-optic to Starke County is $8.2 millon. Cruise says that brings the total cost of the project to $11.72 million with $8.2 million coming from Surf, $2.93 million from an NLC grant and $500,000 coming from Starke County.

He stated the total amount of households they are going to be bringing internet service too sits at 4,365. He went on to say they are also hopeful they are awarded another grant that could give another 48 addresses in Starke County internet service with Surf. He stated, if awarded in July, the state would put forth $230,000 while Surf would put forth $750,000. He informed the commissioners he would keep them updated on if they have been awarded the grant.
