At their meeting Monday morning, the Starke County Commissioners approved the purchase of cameras that would upgrade security at the Starke County Jail.
The bid of $77,001 was accepted as submitted by Vermillion Systems Security Solutions of Walkerton, Indiana. The representative, Greg Payne, was on hand to answer questions about the system, and to assure the commissioners that work would begin within three weeks.
“It’s going to allow the jailers and Sheriff to keep a closer eye on the inmates,” said Starke County IT Director, Bob Smith. “It’s also going to give them the ability to see in the dark, which we don’t have now. With this upgrade, we’re going to add a few more cameras to the exterior of the jail to cover the outside as well.”
Those new cameras should be in operation soon.
