During Doctor’s Appreciation Week last week, we learned that there is a Pediatric Office open in Knox. The Nurse Practitioner in the office is Jody Rodgers, who works in collaboration with a physician to provide health care to the community. The office is located in the Mint Leaf Plaza, south of Knox.
“It’s going to be a great resource because we’ve got handfuls of Family Practitioners in the county but we don’t have a Pediatrician’s office,” said Jody Rodgers. “Now with the IU Health Pediatric clinic opening up here in Knox, parents and families will have an alternative and additional access to health care locally.”
“I’m there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and currently, Dr. Franklin Firestone is there Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The goal of this office in the future is to have it be completely staffed by Nurse Practitioners. I know there is recruiting going on for additional Nurse Practitioners to fill those roles.”
We asked what kind of services she provides.
“We do everything from well-child examinations to sudden illnesses that develop. You may have that child that wakes up with an earache, sore throat, or the school nurse sends them home with a fever. You call our office, you come in the same day, you get your child seen and they get adequate health care. We treat all different problems with children, not only the well-child examinations, but Attention Deficit Disorder, problems with eating, growth and development, the common earache, the common upper respiratory infection.”
