LaPorte City Police Department officers are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred in the 900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in LaPorte. When officers arrived on scene, a 23-year-old female, a 55-year-old female and a 63-year-old female inside were all suffering from stab wounds.
After several hours of investigation, detectives were able to locate and arrest the suspect, James Smith, 25, of Michigan City. He has been charged with Aggravated Battery, a Class B Felony and two counts of Battery with a Deadly Weapon, a Class C Felony. Smith is being held in the LaPorte County Jail under a $100,000 bond pending arraignment in Circuit Court. The suspect’s motive in this incident is not being released as some aspects of the investigation is ongoing.
The LaPorte City Police Department was assisted by the LaPorte Fire Department, LaPorte County Emergency Medical Services and officers from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s office.
