State Senator Jim Arnold (D-LaPorte) and State Representative Tom Dermody (R-LaPorte) will host a community forum on June 22nd in LaPorte to discuss concerns about gasoline prices and the oil markets with local residents.
The meeting will take place at the LaPorte County Government Complex, 813 Lincolnway on June 22 at 6:00 p.m. CT. The event is free and open to the public.
Scot Imus, Executive Director of the Indiana Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, and Maureen Hellmann Ferguson, Executive Director of the Indiana Petroleum Council, will attend the forum to take questions from the audience and address a wide variety of issues. In particular, the industry representatives will discuss the root causes of price increases and the role played by market speculators, as well as the reason for price differentials between neighboring communities.
Sen. Arnold said he hopes the meeting will provide explanations to concerns about the volatility of gasoline prices.
“We have well justified concerns about the fluctuation of gasoline prices,” he said. “I think the public deserves to know why prices vary so greatly day-to-day and between neighboring towns, and I hope we can get those answers at this public meeting. We are indeed fortunate to have secured the attendance of these two experts and we certainly hope the public attends to get their concerns addressed.”
