The Starke County Commissioners accepted the Property and Casualty and Workers Compensation Insurance policies as presented by First Source Insurance Agent, Bridget Markin yesterday. Markin said the loss ratio of 48% for the Property and Casualty was very good, but there would be an overall increase to the County of $12,017 in premiums because the company paid out $27,000 more in Workers Compensation claims than the cost of the insurance. The policies begin in July.
It was pointed out that the County had two significant claims from the EMS for lifting injuries and one major back strain. The others, Markin said, were less severe injury claims. All in all, the Workers Compensation claims totaled over $114,000.
Markin said she could get the Commissioners videos and written information to give to the training officer to incorporate into his programs with the county employees to help reduce the amount of injuries.
The Commissioners thanked Markin for her help with the training tools.
