An investigation into a call received by the Starke County Sheriff’s Department regarding a sexual assault turned up enough evidence to arrest Brett Kersey for several charges including rape. At about 4 p.m. on July 28, the SCSD was informed that a victim of sexual assault was at I.U. Health Starke Hospital, and an investigation returned enough information for a search warrant to be granted for the residence of 0440 N. 700 E. in Knox.
The SCSD and a crime scene tech from the Indiana State Police searched the residence, and were able to find enough evidence and information to confirm a sexual assault occurred at the residence. Unfortunately, the suspect was not in the home at the time of the search.
After learning that the suspect is from Kewanna, the SCSD contacted the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department and informed them that their suspect may be in their county. The Fulton County Sheriff’s Department was soon able to locate and arrest Kersey. Kersey is facing possible charges of Child Molesting, Rape, and Contributing to Delinquency of a Minor. The incident is still being investigated by police.
