Volunteers and community service workers have been working to renovate the Washington Township Community Building. The entire interior has been cleaned and painted, doors refinished and floors have been scrubbed and finished. The improvements have cost less than $1,000.
Township Trustee, Shelly Kemble, said an Open House is planned so the community can see all of the improvements.
“That Open House is scheduled for October 23rd, which is a Sunday, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and we want to show the public what’s been going on,” said Kemble. “If anyone has any old pictures of the Washington Township building when it was being built, the firehouse, or the old Washington Township Elementary School, we would like to make copies of those, enlarge those, and put those as a permanent fixture in the building. We would like to have a new area in ‘new’ building and a new atmosphere.”
If you are involved with wedding planning, including caters, cake decorators and photographers, call Shelly at 772-7746 for a chance to set up a booth for a Bridal Expo planned during the Open House.
And more surprises await you.
“We’re going to be having drawings for free rentals, half-off rentals, and discounts that day. If you book your rental on the day of the Open House, you will get a discount. Come out and see the new building, what we’ve done to the interior, and the improvements we’ve made. If you have any questions, call (574) 772-7746.”
The Washington Township Community Center is located next to the Firehouse on State Road 23, north of State Road 8 East in Starke County.
