The West Central School Board members held a wind turbine construction meeting recently. Plans are to mobilize some equipment on the grounds on September 15th and evacuation work will begin on September 16th. A groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for September 30th at 9:30 a.m. ET in the football stadium. The community is invited.
The tower will be erected on the FFA plot adjacent to the football field and that one turbine will power the entire school and there would be some power left over to sell.
Superintendent Charles Mellon previously stressed that this project will be a huge financial benefit for the School Corporation. The school currently pays around $250,000 a year for electricity alone and this wind turbine would save that in energy cost. If the project goes as planned, the turbine could be operational in November of this year.
The Board members also discussed insurance quotes for the new wind turbine and took them under advisement.
