The Knox High School Drama Department is putting on another play: The Clumsy Custard Horror Show. With a lot of audience participation, the production is described as your typical fairy tale kingdom with a princess in need of a husband, an evil villain who desires her, and a hero who, of course, saves the day.
“It also throws in some mistaken identities and very odd creatures, but of course they all live happily ever after,” said Director Terrill Hahn.
Taylor Quella, Kara Aaron, Nathan Upchurch, and Jordan Bulick play the lead roles, and along with the rest of the cast, have been working diligently on the show for six weeks. Even with the tragic loss of one of the members, the crew knows the show must go on.
“Our most difficult challenge was the death of one of our cast members, Drew Shearin. He was such a big part of our theater department, and it has been hard for the students and myself. We miss him,” said Hahn.
Hahn said she chose the play because she was looking for something with several parts to entertain the audience, and because the play uses a lot of “stock characters” with roles that high school students would find easier to perform.
“We’ve had an interesting time figuring out how to do certain elements of the play such as the head in the box, and later creating her headless body,” said Hahn.
Of course, this production isn’t the last we’ll see from the drama department. A spring musical is in the works for the next production, but no specific details have been released yet.
The show will be presented tonight and tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT in the Knox High School Auditorium with a cost of $6 at the door.
