A 39-year-old Winamac woman died as a result of injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident in Winamac early Friday morning.
A witness told police that she was inside her home at 478 N. 100 W. in Winamac when she heard the sound of a vehicle skidding on the roadway followed by a loud crash. The witness stated in the report that the driver was still inside the vehicle and she stayed with the vehicle until help arrived.
The reporting officer from the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department found that in his investigation, Crystal J. Starr was traveling southbound on County Road 100 West from County Road 50 North at a high rate of speed and the roads were snow covered and slick. He found evidence that showed that she left the roadway and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled another 70 feet before coming to rest. Rescue teams pried open the door to get Starr out of the vehicle and she never regained consciousness at the scene. She was taken to Pulaski Memorial Hospital and she died of her injuries at the hospital. The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department deputy noted in his report that Starr had a blood alcohol concentration of .263.
