We continue with the top stories of 2011 in the Kankakee Valley.
The year had its share of tragic stories during the year. Two of the most memorable were the death of a three-year-old toddler, and the shooting of an 81-year-old woman.
Stacie Brown was charged in the death of her three-year-old stepson, Ethan Brown, in June. Brown was charged with Battery Resulting in Death and Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death. Brown was babysitting the youngster when she reportedly became angry, pushing the youngster to the floor where he struck his head. He died a few days later in a South Bend hospital.
Meanwhile, three men are charged with causing the death of Wilma Upasll, an elderly woman, during a home invasion in late November. The trio were apparently looking for items of value, when one of the men thought Upsall had recognized him. It’s then that authorities speculate that Roy Bell shot the woman several times. All three were caught and incarcerated within days of the tragic event.
