The Community Services of Starke County Food Pantry considers itself blessed by all the generous donations from the community, but Director Joan Haugh says keeping the pantry stocked with food is an ongoing struggle and, as always, they need donations of paper products, dish soap, laundry detergent, and shampoo– things that cannot be purchased with food stamps.
Haugh told WKVI that Community Services has a number of events coming up, including a community workshop planned for today. The workshop focuses on emergency management in the home, and EMA Director Ted Bombagetti will handle a presentation to keep residents informed on how to be prepared for weather-related disasters, including winter ice storms that have, in the past, caused lengthy power outages. The workshop will take place at the Knox Senior Center from 12:30 p.m. and will last about an hour.
The energy assistance program is still in swing, and Haugh says that money is still available and encourages anyone in need of assistance to apply. Indiana recently reduced the total amount that each household gets each year, so more households can be covered by the program.
