The West Central School Board discussed the 2012-2013 school calendar during their meeting last week. Superintendent Charles Mellon said there will be a big change in the next school year.
“Our major change in the calendar is that this coming year, every Thursday we will be having a staff development hour to begin the day,”explained Superintendent Mellon. “The students will report to school 30 minutes later each Thursday which would get them to school at 8:25 a.m. Parents are going to have to know that on Thursdays their child gets on the bus 30 minutes later. Our staff will be coming in at 7:25 a.m. So we can get in an hour of in-service.”
Mr. Mellon was asked why the change was necessary.
“There’s just so much newness as far as we have to take the staff through all the changes the State is making like the new evaluation system, curriculum mapping, new testing and that type of thing. We felt it was a worthwhile endeavor to have a calendar that built in such activities.”
