The Knox Community Elementary third grade students recently took a new test called IREAD and the results are in. It’s important that the students pass this test as it plays a big role in if the student moves onto fourth grade. Superintendent A.J. Gappa says the students did well.
“We had 147 third graders take the test and outright and 122 passed,” stated Mr. Gappa. “Of those 25 who didn’t meet the standard, 14 of those were either English as a second language students or they had a IEP so they were good-cause exemptions. They get to move on anyway. We had one undetermined so that leaves a total of 10 students out of the 147 who need to participate in remediation and be tested again.”
The students who did not pass the test will go through remediation this summer.
“We will offer summer school and remediation and those students can retake the test this summer. We will have letters going out to those parents by the end of this month to get that information going. We plan on having summer school in June, soon after the regular school year has ended. Our goal is to make sure every student in the third grade passes that test and moves on to fourth grade.”
