Pat Mitchell, representing the Convention and Visitors Commission (formerly known as Starke County Visitors Association), appeared before the Starke County Commissioners last week to report that the membership had met even though they are missing three members.
Only four of the six members were present, but they did make a transfer of funds to the Starke County Tourism Commission.
Current members are Pat Mitchell, Jim Shilling, Rick Chambers, Judy Jelenik, Marty Lucas, and John Hensler. Having resigned from the board are Rich Wieczorek and Jennie Carter. There was one other vacancy that would have brought the board to full strength.
Commission President Kathy Norem explains the qualifications needed to fill these positions on the CVC Board.
“A simple majority of the members must be engaged in a convention, visitor, or tourism business, or involved in or promoting, convention, visitor, or tourism,” explained Norem. “So we would like to replace these three members with the political balance as required, with people who have experience in those areas, or has a particular interest in those areas.”
Needed are two Republican members and one Democrat. If you are interested, you should contact Kathy Norem and voice your willingness to serve.
