Knox Mayor Rick Chambers has confirmed that the Starke County fireworks celebration on Wednesday, July 4 will take place at the Starke County Airport. Get to the airport early so you can enjoy demonstrations from the Starke County Amateur Radio Club as well as a remote control plane club. Food and souvenirs will be available from several vendors. The gate opens at 6 p.m. and the firework show begins at dusk.
Starke County Commissioner Kathy Norem said that even if the county’s burn ban is extended past July 2nd and the allowance for the use of fireworks is rescinded, there will be an exemption for the county fireworks celebration as it is attended by the fire department and response is immediate.
Two fundraisers for the fireworks celebration are scheduled for tomorrow. Nelson’s Port-a-Pit chicken and pit-a-toes will be available for purchase at the Knox South Side Fire Station and the Bass Lake Shriner’s Building from 10 a.m. until sold out. Delivery service is available in the City of Knox, and residents can call the mayor’s office at 772-4553 by noon today for those orders. You may also call 806-4488 for orders on Saturday, June 23. Correct change will be needed when the delivery drivers arrive at your location and checks may be made to the City of Knox. Ticket price is $7 for half a chicken and pit-a-toes will be available for $3.
