A LaPorte teenager was arrested yesterday after escaping from the LaPorte County Juvenile Detention Center.
The teen escaped from the center and stole a truck in the Westville area with plans to pick up an ex-girlfriend at South Central High School. Police later located the vehicle near the school and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled.
The teen attempted to elude police by traveling off-road on a dirt lane. The vehicle traveled across several farm fields and eventually bailed out of the vehicle.
Police continued to chase the teen in a police vehicle while the teen ran from them. He was later taken into custody.
The investigation into this case is ongoing by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, Westville Police Department and the Department of Natural Resources.
Formal charges are pending.
