Knox Middle School students took donations for Hurricane Sandy victims at the Nancy J. Dembowski Community Center in Knox yesterday morning.
Two pickup loads of items ranging from shampoo, diapers, blankets and other hygiene items were collected and will be sent to those in need.
Student Madeline Hewlett said they wanted to put this together to help.
“Well, Phoebe McGaughey and I decided to put this things and all of us volunteered to help because we thought it was going toward a good cause,” said Hewlett.
This effort was put together by the students, and Knox-Center Township Fire Chief and Starke County Detective Kenny Pfost. Pfost was one of the members of the District 2 Task Force Incident Management Team who were one of the first teams to arrive on the east coast to help in recovery efforts. Mayor Rick Chambers also helped the students put this together and several businesses donated items to give away to donors.
