A Plymouth woman whose son was killed in a car accident last year has found a way to cope with her loss while helping others to get through one of the hardest things a parent can go through: the loss of a child. Deb Johnson’s son, 17-year-old Drew Shearin, was killed while driving home from work last year. No drugs or alcohol were involved, and his mother said he may have swerved to avoid an animal.
Our partners at WNDU featured Johnson in their report, “Coping With The Loss,” featured below.
The Johnson/Shearin family is doing their best to cope with the painful loss by sharing Drew’s gift with others. The family established a scholarship at Knox High School along with a fund created with the help of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation. The fund aims to give musical instruments to children whose families aren’t necessarily able to afford them.
To make donations of musical instruments call the Northern Indiana Community Foundation at 877-432-6423, and the Starke County Community Foundation at (574) 772-3665.
