American Licorice Company is planning an expansion project in LaPorte.
The candy and licorice manufacturer from Bend, Ore. will invest approximately $10 million to equip and renovate its 285,000 square-foot facility at 1900 Whirlpool Drive in LaPorte. The expansion includes the installation of a licorice production line and the addition of a rail spur to allow the company to receive ingredients by rail.
The renovation project is expected to be complete and operations should be in place in 2015.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered up to $200,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. The city of LaPorte approved additional tax abatement at the request of the Greater LaPorte Economic Development Corporation.
American Licorice currently employs 150 people in LaPorte. The company will be hiring additional production associates next year.
