Another Starke County bridge is soon to be repaired, as the commissioners this week gave their approval to sign paperwork for the engineering aspect of the repairs on Bridge 43, located near Koontz Lake. Mark Wilson with engineering firm Jones, Petrie, and Rafinski approached the commissioners with paperwork to be signed for the go-ahead on the engineering study.
County Attorney Martin Lucas had only one correction that he said he would like to see on the paperwork before it is signed. He pointed out that the contract required any litigation regarding the study to take place in Elkhart County, and he said it should be corrected to reflect that litigation should take place in Starke County, where the bridge is located. The paperwork noted the maximum price of the work should not exceed $39,390.
The commissioners unanimously approved the contract with the changes.
Ron Gifford also approached the commissioners on behalf of Starke County Economic Development Foundation Executive Director Charles Weaver to review the additional appropriations for CEDIT money coming in for 2013, and the leftovers from 2012. The commissioners made a motion to sign the paperwork and send it on to the council for approval on Feb. 18.
