Indiana’s unemployment rate rose in December to 8.2 percent, while Starke County’s unemployment went up nearly a point.
About 259,800 people were unemployed in Indiana last month. The estimate is based on a survey sample of residents around the country about their employment situations, which includes whether they are working or looking for work.
Starke County is ranked sixth in the state for the highest unemployment rate at 10.8 percent. DuBois County remains the county with the lowest unemployment rate at 5.9 percent.
Pulaski County reported an unemployment rate of 7.6 percent which is 67th in ranking in the state; Porter County is at 8.5 percent, Marshall County is at 9 percent, St. Joseph County is at 9.4 percent, LaPorte County is at 10.5 percent.
Ninety-one counties reported an increase in unemployment.
