LaPorte Deputies Arrest Two in Connection With Residential Burglary

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department arrested two people in connection with a residential burglary that took place earlier this week. On Tuesday, Feb. 5, police were called to a possible burglary in progress at a home that had been already been burglarized less than two weeks prior.

Around 12:03 p.m., dispatch received a call reporting the burglary at a home in the 1200 North block of Goldring Road. The homeowner called 911 after returning home and discovering items stacked outside the home. Sheriff’s deputies arrived a short while later and confirmed that a burglary had taken place, and a neighbor told police that they had seen two men run north from the victim’s home and disappear into a wooded area.

Deputies tracked down the suspects approximately a half-mile away from the victim’s home at a residence in the 5700 West block of County Road 150 North. Police then searched the home and located the two suspects hiding within, taking them into custody without incident. The two suspects have been identified as 18-year-old Tyler Metts and 18-year-old Nick Lemons.

Police recovered items that had been taken from the victim’s home at the suspect residence and transported Lemons and Metts to the LaPorte County Jail on charges of Burglary as a Class B felony. They are scheduled to appear in LaPorte County Circuit Court on Feb. 8, with a bond of $25,000 cash.

Investigators with the Laporte County Sheriff’s Office and LaPorte County Metro Operations Unit assisted with the investigation, along with officers from the Michigan City and Trail Creek police departments. The investigation continues, however, with additional anticipated arrests. Anyone with additional information concerning this burglary is asked to contact lead investigator Jon Burger at (219) 326-7700 ext. 2561.
