North Judson-San Pierre High School will soon have the honor of representing Indiana in the small school division of the Online National Academic Decathlon competition following their victory in the State Academic Decathlon competition. The Small School State Champion, the NJ-SP Academic Decathlon team beat nearest competitor Reitz Memorial of Evansville by over 2200 points with a team score of 34,521.5 during the competition on Feb. 8 and 9.
The nine-member team earned 29 medals and placed first as a team in Language and Literature, Music, Economics, and Social Science. The Bluejays earned second place in the Oral Super Quiz, taking questions from all the subject areas except Mathematics. The quiz is an open competition in which the 20 state finalist schools compete against one another, with the rest of the competition divided into large schools and small schools. Ten schools compete in each division.
Jon Hileman, a gold medal winner in Speech, was invited to the stage of the Loeb Playhouse to deliver his speech to the audience of competitors, coaches, parents, and administrators – an honor bestowed upon only six of the 18 Speech medalists.
Overall medalists were Jacob Kieszkowski with a goal in the Varsity Division, Rhiannon Millard with a silver in the Scholastic Division, Steven Miller with a silver in the Scholastic Division, and Jonathon Hileman with a bronze in the Honors Division.
Individual medalists are Jonathon Hileman with a gold in Speech, a silver in Arts and bronze in Science, Music, Economics, and Social Science; Nicholas Sierzputowski with a bronze in Language & Literature; Rhiannon Millard with gold in Music, Art, Economics, Social Science, silver in Language & Literature, and bronze in Mathematics and Essay; Robert Miller with a bronze in Science; Jacob Kieszkowski with gold medals in Interview, Mathematics, Science, Art, Language & Literature, and Economics, silver in Social Science, and bronze in Music; Steven Miller with gold in Music and Economics, silver in Art, and Bronze in Science and Language & Literature; and Samantha Amrine with a silver medal in Language & Literature. Other members of the team are Cheyenne Minix and Anna Mullens.
