The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department is hosting a jail commander and sheriffs meeting today at Poblano’s Restaurant in Winamac from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET. The meeting is being held at the recommendation of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association.
Pulaski County Sheriff Michael Gayer said this is an opportunity for everyone to come to get together for an informational session.
“It’s to better educate and provide ongoing training for the sheriffs and jail commanders on the operation of the jail,” said Sheriff Gayer. “One of the things that will be discussed by the Department of Corrections officials is the PREA law, which is the Prison Rape Elimination Act, violence in the correctional facilities and those types of things that occur inside the jail.”
Pulaski County usually hosts these meetings once a year and similar meetings occur around the state.
About 62 jail commanders and sheriffs from around the state will be attending today’s meeting.
