Investigators from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene of a fatality accident Thursday afternoon.
The two-vehicle crash involved a passenger car and a garbage truck. Preliminary investigation at the scene found that the driver of the passenger car had apparently failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of 300 North and Johnson Road. The car entered the intersection and collided with a garbage truck.
The 68-year-old female driver of the passenger car was airlifted from the scene and flown to South Bend Memorial Hospital while a 70-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Three occupants in the garbage truck were not injured.
This crash is being reconstructed by a LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office certified Crash Reconstructionist and remains under investigation. The names of those involved in the crash are not being released at this time.
