A doctor at IU Health LaPorte Physicians Primary Care recently received honors from the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program for providing expert care to patients with diabetes. This announcement comes from the National Committee for Quality Assurance and the American Diabetes Association, who proclaimed Dr. Joseph Arulandu as the only physician in La Porte and Porter counties to have received this honor for three consecutive years since 2006.
According to a press release from IU Health, the program was designed to improve the quality of care received by patients with diabetes through the recognition of physicians who strive to deliver quality diabetes care and by motivating other doctors to document and improve delivery of the same. In order to receive the honor, Arulandu submitted data that demonstrated he meets the program’s key diabetes care measures, which include eye exams, blood pressure tests, nutrition therapy, and patient satisfaction, as well as a slew of other requirements as well. According to the NCQA, these measures ensure that those suffering from diabetes receive the quality care they deserve and are less likely to suffer complications from the disease such as heart attacks, strokes, blindness, kidney disease, or even amputations.
Arulandu is board-certified in internal medicine and lipidology, and welcomes patients at IU Health LaPorte Physicians Primary Care at Johnson Road Internal Medicine, located at 7002 W. Johnson Road in LaPorte. To schedule an appointment, call (219) 325-0604 or (219) 874-3700.
