The LaPorte DUI Task Force conducted a sobriety checkpoint during the evening hours of March 9.
The checkpoint was conducted along Franklin Street in Michigan City. That location was chosen based on alcohol related crash data, impaired driving arrest data and officer safety.
Officials stopped 220 vehicles during the sobriety checkpoint. One person was arrested on a charge of Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and one person was arrested on an active arrest warrant. A summons was issued for one driver for driving while suspended with a prior violation and another for one person who was driving while suspended. One license violation citation and one warrant were issued.
Deputies and officers conducting the checkpoint received some positive feedback and public support from motorists who went through the checkpoint. Other roving saturation patrols were conducted and results in the arrest of two more impaired drivers.
