Hamlet Clerk-Treasurer Kristina Pitts had earlier reported that the proposed ordinance would allow residents in the town limits to house chickens on their property. She stated that several people have been in favor of the ordinance.
If approved, the ordinance would include a yearly fee to register such animals within the town limits, plus other limitations concerning the number of fowl allowed and the distance in which pens can be placed on a property from an adjoining property.
Opinions gathered in this public hearing will allow the members of the Hamlet Town Board to form a proposed ordinance to be presented in formal meetings for approval on three readings.
